WHAT'S NEW at LGFC                                  UPDATES ( monthly work we do to better this site)

Can you say BUSY
Wow what a  season !!
Close to 60 chicks weaning and loads of shipping to do.

We realized that having very relaxed rules and relaxed attitude had made us
vulnerable and so had to institute a few changes.
We updated our terms and conditions page to reflect these new changes.

We also learned that some clients did not know that we custom breed the gouldians for them
and I assume thought that we just happened to like the same colours as them ')
That is why we breed on consignment only.
We are probably the only aviary you will find that will custom breed the gouldians for you, so that you get exactly what you ask for within reason ')
Other than that ...wow can you say chicks....
Where did the season go??
One minute the first egg were being laid and now we are at the very tail end of it.

We had some very nice show stock born this season ( over 8 potentials) and so look forward
to the shows in mere months.  we were greatly impressed with how the red bengalese turned out.
We were expecting a lot of pieds and did get them but also got two amazing self reds.
We feel these two will really launch the red gene pool in the aviary.

Also this was a good year for the blue gouldians at Lady Gouldian Finch Canada
We were able to get many chicks from split to blue with blue parent pairings.
The result is some very healthy robust looking blue gouldian finches.

Where all these babies are coming from and what balance we have found I cannot say, but i am sure it is due in part to our newer formula Protein Complete, our G I F T and our diligence to the details.

Finally got the trophy page up.
Took me many months to get the whle thing done.  Loads of pics and poranizing.
I hope the page will allow you to see our progression and growth over teh years.

Have put new pics of the babies in my photo folder:
(must be signed in to yahoo in order to view them)

We were estimating 35 chicks this season but may get closer to 65  So we will keep all those in our cancellations list updated as to what is going on in regards to all these extra fids.

We now sell S76.

WHAT'S NEW at LGFC

Well here we are in 2010..

We are hoping this year is very productive for all our clients, friends and family.
We have been quite busy on twitter this last month and have some awesome
tips there for all to enjoy including tips on training your gouldians to parent rear.

Things are settling down in the aviary.
We have bred many amazing birds this season but the ones that give us the most promise are the bad white breasts.
We are hoping to get some good blue breasts in 2-3 generations.
A mutation that has all but disappeared in gouldian aviculture.

There is a slight snag in our lutino line but one we are hoping to iron out.
This second generation of lutino babies is less hardy then their parents were
so we may have to breed back to a much hardier strain to preserve what we have in this mutation.

We are sad to report that Yankee is no longer with us.
He passed rather quickly and the autopsy proved in conclusive.
He was a superb father and he will be sadly missed.

We purchased quite a few books ( several copies in fact)  from Australian Bird Keeper as well as amazing DVDs on breeding more naturally.
So we were quite busy these last few weeks reading and catching up on loads of pertinent new information in the study of gouldians.

So as you can tell this last little while has been about research and
up dating. If you are looking for amazing new books that will tell you all you need to know about these amazing birds please check out our new book page.

We still are very glad that our newer formula
Protein Complete, our G I F T and our diligence to the details have made this
another amazing breeding season at Lady Gouldian Finch Canada

WHAT'S NEW at LGFC          UPDATES ( monthly work we do to better this site)

Well here we are the shows are upon us..again

This year was quite an exciting year. We have received through a breeding accident two bad white breast birds. For the un educated the bad white breast exhibits a lot of blue in its white breast.   This blue can be expressed fully in white/blue breast pairings.

We are trying to finally not just breed to satisfy the gouldian market but to start to hone in on lines we are most interested in exploring and getting to know even better.

It took us many years to get the kind of fids that garnered us one of the best repuations in Canada.

Now we are taking that 1 huge step farther and hoping to become one of Canada's leading experts on the art of not only recognizing and enhancing certain qualities , but in understanding them even more deeply then ever before.

We are  growing and owe all our thanks to the avian community that through the tumultuous beginnings have stood by us and supported us in those troubling times.
This allowed us to get to where we are today, and kept  us striving for more.

We love this time of year.
The breeding behind the shows ahead and nothing but possibilities.
Whether a bird wins or loses is not what the show is about for us.
It is a time to see how we can better our stock and avoid certain structural flaws in the whole flock.
It is a  time to catch up on old and newer friends and share our war stories and triumphs.

This time of year is when we can step back and evaluate where we have been and where we are going with this line or that, and where we hope to be when we are done.

This is the time to give thanks to all those wonderful people out there that encourage us year after year to be better.
Whether the criticism was good or bad it allowed us to grow and for that we can never say enough how much we appreciated it.

An update on the lutino line:  The chicks .. now 1 is doing fine and she has some amazing good size and shape to her.  She is the spoiled princess in  her ivory tower.
We will have to breed her with a  nice big normal male next season and see how that goes.
We want this line to be super hardy and healthy so that we can make this breed less exclusive and more available for all to enjoy.

Well the show starts tomorrow and I hope that everyone has a great fun show season and  also that newbies will come to the show and see first hand what a supportive group of  breeders we have in Southern Ontario.

We are currently entertaimning all kinds of judging offers, (more are always welcome) and looking forward to sharing  our knowledge of the hobby through these very exhillerating
events.

We are hoping this year is very productive for all our clients, their friends and family.
