LEGEND:
het: heterozygous ( carrying
more
then 1 mutational characteristic in this instance Pb/Wb aka
split )
hom: homozygous ( carrying no
mutational characteristics a.k.a. as pure or Pb in this case)
Nor: nor ( wild coloured (
purple breast, green back homozygous))
Wb:
White Breasted
This recessive autosomal
gene
found in gouldian finches is the most recessive of all gouldian finch
breast genes.
This recessiveness is
quite
desired by most as white breasted gouldians are more prized generally,
and
so some may impatiently pair two white breasted lady gouldians
together in
the hopes of getting a clutch of 100% white breasted gouldian finches
not realizing that with this extremely recessive gouldian gene can come
some other extremely recessive traits.
The order of dominance is
as
follows:
-Purple breasted
-Blue Breasted
-Rose
-Lilac
-White
Most show breeders will
avoid
pairing white breasted gouldian finches to white breasted gouldian
finches as it invariably leads to smaller less robust offspring.
The white breasted gene is best expressed by pairing two heterozygous (
a.k.a. split white breasted) gouldian finches together a seen in the
above chart.
