WHAT'S NEW at
LGFC UPDATES ( monthly work we do to better this
site)
Well here we are in the
Fall of 2011..
We are hoping this year
is very productive for all our clients, friends
and family. We have been quite busy
on facebook
this last month and have some awesome tips there for all to
enjoy including tips on training your gouldians to parent rear.
A new season is about to begin.
Last season we had some ups and downs but not as bad as 2010.
This year we hope to change all that by imporoving where we failed last
year.
This is a very hectic time when all the excess stock is sold and
we start with a fresh batch of
fids.
We are hoping that this years team is a marked improvement over
the 2011
team, that did produce some winners as well as some amazing
mutations/modifications.
We had for the first time 3 dirty blue breased goulds from the pair we
purchased. Sadly none were great in type. I have a new favourite now...his name is
Pumpkin in honour of Halloween.
He is a yelllow suffusion orange headed lilac breasted male.
I saw a picture of this mutation when first breeding and am so glad I
can replicate it.
He took any other mutation categories very easily. He is large for a
yellow regardless
of mutation and his shape is superb.
He lost out to the slightly larger normals but seemed to always place
second best against even those behomths.
I am thrilled to have him to help increase my line of yellows.
He was a stand out the instant he coloured out as you can see by the
pic. We were very honored this year to sponsor the
finch division at the Canadian
Nationals. It was very good seeing the few novice breeders and the
enthuthiasm
they have to compete. All in all the show was typical when you have
breeders
stewarding. The main thrill for me was composing a poster that featured
Goliath
prominently. It reminded me of why and how being my first show gouldian
he was
so important to me.
We were gifted a group on yahoo called OntarioBird
Exchange and with it and others we are making selling at a fair
price for the breeder all that more accessible to novices and pros
alike.
No more fees just post to 10s of hundreds of people in a day and watch
the offers pour in.
We are also finally getting the straggling gould chicks colouring out.
They wete hatched very late in the season.
We set up the Java Sparrows this month and already have a nice split
pair on eggs. We will pair the goulds minus the two pair that have 2
month old chicks beginning mid November
So as you see we are very busy and looking forward to the suprises and
challenges brought forth in the 2012 season. :-)
