Sprouting Seed

There are several ways to sprout seed, but I find the easiest way is to place some seed in a bowl ( or in my case a small bucket)
add enough water to cover it.
Add a drop or two of vinegar to keep seed fresh.
Let stand  12-14 hours.  (I make mine in the evening and feed it the next morning.)
Sieve out all the floaters ( these are in-fertile and not full of anything worthwhile ( they can even cause your seeds to turn bad if left in too long).
Next drain the viable seed  under the water in a sieve.
pour water over and rinse until water runs clear and slight odour is gone.
Finally allow seed to soak in "tea" of water ioford nf, dufo plus and turbo booster for 1-2 hours.
Drain ( do not rinse) and add protein complete or similar egg/green  food  and serve.
There is no method I trust more with ease and quickness.
It takes a  long time to feed my birds and I would not want to be messing with a bunch of paper towels or jars full of liquid.
After each use place the remainder back in the refridgerator
Soaked seeds should not be given after the fourth day as by then they are just loaded with starch and have lost some of the high edible protein they were sprouted for in the first place.
You can also feed the seeds dry to learn more please click here.

Dry Method

This method is ideal for the beginner not yet used to proper sprouting techniques.

This dry method  is ideal for gouldians as they like their green food a bit drier then most finches.
The example below is for a flock of 20-30 birds but may be reduced by using the proportions chart for smaller flocks/pairs.
In a bowl we combine:
-2 cups seed ( we feed soak seed) (1000 ml)
-3 table spoons ( 45 ml) ioford nf
-3 table spoons (45 ml)  dufo plus
-3 table spoons ( 45 ml) turbo booster
-60 ml protein complete
mix with spoon or in blender (use aerator blade) until seed is thoroughly coated.
serve in feeding dishes.

Portions are 11.3 %  wet ingredients ( or equivelant)

                   05.1 % protein complete ( or equivelant)

83.6 %  seed ( soak seed or equivelant)

These portions can be adjusted to suit your own needs.
